An Illuminating Puzzle Adventure!
At State of Play we've wanted to make a Puzzle Adventure game for a while--since we started out in fact.
The roots can be traced back to my own love of 80s and 90s Puzzle Adventure games, and puzzle adventure books.
With Lume, the style and overall concept are the things we've really focused on, building a model rigged with miniature lighting and placing the character in a real setting that just feels more tactile than any we could have created with 3D software. We can’t compete with consoles in their 3D graphics technology, but we can actually make something more realistic by going about it a different way.
With the puzzles, we wanted to deviate from the traditional instead aimed for self-contained and practical puzzles more akin to the Professor Layton games. Unlike those, however, the puzzles aren't just inspired by events in the game; they make sense in the game world. All the puzzles are also made from paper, so everything should just fit.
HOW TO PLAY
With Lume, we've tried to be as intuitive as possible with the control scheme for example, and people will feel right at home there.
Reviews
It's unclear whether there will be more to Lume later (as the closing credits hint at a continuation of the story and a possible "part two"), but I'll be first in line if there is. This is a very light, charming little game that deserves an hour or two of your time. Just be sure to have a walkthrough ready for when you get to the crazy combination lock puzzle.

Lume is filled with happy colors, cute characters and a few awfully difficult puzzles which will make you want to pull the hair off your head.
