PLAYISM is proud to announce that the Steam version of The Dream Of A Cockspur, a surreal point-and-click horror game developed by roccay, has been released on July 22nd, 2026.
Journeyed to the new world—a perfect harvest. A ship bound for eternal space. We are all its cargo. But not all cargo may board. For the ship demands only "good wares"...
Something is wrong... In this world, where are we to go, and what are we to do?
As one of the few humans remaining on Earth, the protagonist, along with a team of investigators — is sent to examine a mysterious object that crash-landed on a remote island.
But with their return imminent, their only means of transport malfunctions. You are left stranded on an island with no way out.
Is someone deliberately sabotaging the mission — or does a hidden horror lurk upon the island, drawing ever closer?
Scour every corner, check every location, and survive this maddeningly surreal world.
It may take some time... to come to terms with it all.
In this work, the protagonist (i.e. the player) remains an enigma. Who are you? And who are your fellow investigators — what are their stories, their connections to you? These are questions you must uncover throughout the game. As events unfold far beyond imagination, the player’s choices will determine what facets of the story are revealed.
Amidst this uneasy uncertainty, where nothing is clear, only one being offers solace: a therapy dog named Numnum. The one constant, the sole source of comfort, for one adrift in the dark.
Independent developer roccay originally majored in molecular cell biology and pathology, but now works full-time on game development. They've created several mini-games in the past, but The Dream Of A Cockspur marks their debut full-length title.
<What Makes This Game Special, According to the Developer>
What I think players have enjoyed most during demo events and playtests is simply how weird and off-kilter it is. I've always loved surrealist art and animation — the feeling of "ordinary structures coming undone," that ineffable abstract quality that's hard to put into words. So I made this game with that very sensibility in mind.
When I first put together the demo PV, there was a scene where the hull of a ship cracks open. I couldn't quite pull it off in 3D, so I turned to clay and stop-motion animation instead. That meant buying a deluxe 40-color clay set, which, funnily enough, ended up being the single biggest expense of the whole development process (laughs). But it was surprisingly well-received, so I'm glad I went for it. Oh, and in the latest trailer, there's also a large-scale object made from plaster — definitely keep an eye out for that!
