We started developing Futuridium as a small side project for an online game development contest. It was a small idea in the beginning: we really wanted to pay homage to the 8bit top down shooter Uridium, bringing some core gameplay mechanics in 3D.
It was a bit crazy since the main mechanic is based on your ability to turn your ship 180° on the spot just by pressing a button. Since you can’t see what’s behind you we really didn’t know if this gameplay mechanic could work, so we tested it and… not only did it work, but it was also very fun!
After developing a small 4 levels prototype we decided to turn Futuridium in a full game, so thanks to the support from Sony we released Futuridium EP Deluxe first on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, greatly expanding the scope of the game and adding a ton of extras like the turbo, the boss fights, the bonus levels and so on…
In the end we’re really satisfied on how the game turned out: Futuridium EP Deluxe is our debut game, we really enjoyed working on it and we’ve learned a lot on game development for our future projects.
